Topstar Open Art 2010 Swivel Chair : Very Comfortable

Great computer chair for your back but not your bum. Great computer chair for your back but not your bum – the seat appears soft but is soooooo uncomfortable – would have been disappointed if i had paid the rrp. I would definitely recommend it at the discounted price though (i got it for £175) but buy a couple of memory foam pillows to take care of your derriere.

City link delivered this chair, excellent service from them as always. The packaging was first class, every item was individually wrapped and carefully protected to prevent damage during transit. I placed all the chair items on the floor and read the assembly run through. It took me 30 minutes to put the chair together, and i am no diy expert, it was that easy. This chair is german quality at its best, it is made to last, excellent materials. The chair can be adjusted for lumber support, comes with adjustable arm rests and the seat is of the highest quality and comfort. I spend 10-12 hours a day on my computer, i have tried most of the middle to high price chairs found at pc world and the likes of all of which have fallen apart after 12 months or so. This chair reclines back, comes with head rest and is the most comfortable chair i have ever owned by a mile. No its not cheap, however, i see this lasting well beyond the 5 year guarantee, yes it is that good.

Ok so it’s not cheap but have had it several months now and can say this is top quality engineering, a joy to sit on for hours on end and highly customisable. Big plus is floating back so when you move it follows your back (maybe tricky to explain) and wheels which semi-lock when you get off (it’s a heavy beast so otherwise momentum may cause damage at hgih speed) highly recommended. Here are the specifications for the Topstar Open Art 2010 Swivel Chair:

  • Head and backrest with breathable mesh cover
  • Moulded seat with rounded leading edge
  • Syncro-relax-mechanism
  • Height adjustable armrests, with soft arm pads and width adjustable via bolting
  • Black polyamide base

Have had the chair now a couple of months, love it to bits over what i was previously using, if you’re in the market for a new chair, this might just be the one for you.

A high quality product that looks good and is supremely comfortable. I required a little extra padding between the rubber lumbar support and the mesh back to achieve the perfect seating position. I particularly like the tilt action of the backrest and the head support adds an extra degree of comfort. It is a very well designed and engineered chair.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • The Best Office Chair Ever
  • Very Comfortable
  • Great quality chair

Best chair i have ever owned or sat on. Best chair i have ever owned or sat on, self employed web developer, sometimes sitting for 14+ hours when things get swamped, has saved my neck and back.

Easy to assemble with plenty of adjustment with one minor exception: i can’t get the neck/head support quite far enough forward. It is lovely and cool (even in this 32 degree heat as i am writing this).

Extremely comfortable office chair. It really helps out my back with its support – especially side to side.

So i feel i am in a good position to provide an honest review of this unit. I purchased one of these chairs back in november 2012 and have used it near enough everyday for many hours at a time since then, so i feel i am in a good position to provide an honest review of this unit. Firstly assembly is straight forward, as long as you are willing to both read and follow the instructions, you shouldn’t have any issues. I will point out though that there is a small bit of wobble in my chair, where the actual sitting part attaches to the piston to go up and down, but over 4 years this hasn’t gotten any worse and has had no noticeable effect on its performance or function. I was very on the fence about first buying this chair (i shall mention now that i picked it up in one of amazon’s sales for £206. 07, still a good amount for a chair). Normally i prefer leather furniture, i find it wears much better (some might even go as far as to say they develop ‘character’ with age) and is much cooler in the summer, at least initially. This chair though was a very different direction to what i’m used to, it feels modern, even after all these years, it still looks stylish and surprisingly imposing considering how little of it there actually is (the bulk of it is see through thanks to its mesh design). This chair is nicely customisable, with the arms, height, head rest and lumbar support all being adjustable to suit. You will notice there that i didn’t mention the backrest, that is because this only has 2 modes, bolt upright and free floaty.

      1. Also tried similar looking chair that can be brought on amazon for around £130 and this chair is significantly more comfortable. This chair is definitely comparable in terms of comfort to the chairs i have in office that is upwards of £700. Also tried similar looking chair that can be brought on amazon for around £130 and this chair is significantly more comfortable in terms of adjustments back support and seat padding. For £199, it’s offers great value. Only drawback is putting the back together as the bolt is extremely tight.

    1. Locking in the upward position puts the back a little too far forward the arm position can’t be adjusted other than a tiny bit u. The movement of the parts of this chair are top notch. Each piece moves with you in all directions. Some minor niggles:locking in the upward position puts the back a little too far forwardthe arm position can’t be adjusted other than a tiny bit up and downthe wheels aren’t great and can fall off during transportationstill, great value for £200.

Very nice chair – i have had back pain for a long time. Very nice and comfortable chair, i no longer get tension head aches thanks to the head rest and the tension control for the back rest is really helpful as you can rest at pretty much any position. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is that the right arm rest rattles that is a bit annoying and it was very hard to get the back onto the chair whilst building with the socket wrench that was provided.

Spend a bit more on something alot better. Not bad but was missing a screw to fix the back bit into place. I’ve been using for a while now (over a year) and although it’s better than my old chair, the armrests are quite annoying as they don’t have many adjustment modes. The seat itself is comfy enough but i find the headrest to be too far forward (and it’s adjusted as far as it can be). I would suggest going into a shop and testing a few before purchasing – that was my mistake.

    1. Thought long and hard before this investment as seemed risky buying without trying first. Not disappointed as very good product. I did need to buy a plastic sheet to protect my (high quality) laminate flooring but that’s ok. Our cats take up residence on this chair when i’m not around so protected with a tea towel to avoid fluff-city.

  9. One err of fiddliness, otherwise great. . Superb comfort, and a lot cheaper than an aeron, though still expensive for a chair. We had trouble when first setting up with the recline control, both the ‘amount control’ and actual recline/fix button seem quite fiddly, i think we’ve now damaged it, so apart from that fiddliness, an otherwise great chair as advertised.

    1. I don’t usually find time to write reviews. I bought this chair about 10 months ago. It’s very high quality and well worth the price i paid. I’m writing a review to say, because of the material it’s made of, my cat trying to scratch against the seat or the back of the chair hasn’t done any damage to it at all. There’s some tiny pock-marks in one arm from when she a couple of times has dug her claws in to them, but the rest of it seems to be cat-proof. I don’t think this can be said for many chairs. So for other cat owners, i thought this would be a useful thing to note here :). Edit:the above review i posted on 7 jun. In the almost two years since my cat has really taken to scratching at this chair in the evenings and mornings, she uses it as one of her scratching posts (which is fine with me, as long as she leaves the sofa alone). Here’s a photo of the damage she’s managed to do to it with some quite vicious clawing more than once a day for now approaching 3 years. So, maybe not cat-proof, it turns out, but i reckon it’ll be another couple of years at least before she’ll have done any seriously noticeable damage (not like if she’d been scratching any other piece of furniture for years) – until recent weeks there weren’t even any loose threads. In other news, the chair is still “as new” – very comfortable, great lumbar support, i recommend it.

The chair looks good and is well built. Comfortable to sit on and my back ache from my old chair is gone.

      1. I bought this chair to replace an old, cheap, ‘executive’ style leather chair as i’d been having a lot of lower back problems for a period of a few months, exacerbated when sitting in the old chair. I’ve had it for about a month and i’m very pleased with it so far. Gives me no back problems at all. Some people have mentioned that the lumbar support is a problem for them but i have no issues with it. You can ‘feel’ it pressing in your back a little but it’s not uncomfortable for me. I suppose it would have been nice it was more adjustable as you can only move it up and down. Also not sure about other reviews saying the seat is uncomfortable as it’s completely fine for me in this regard. At work i have a herman miller chair and the seat on that is far thinner and less cushioned (although it’s still an excellent chair). The ‘3d’ rotating back is kind of nice and works fine and the recline under tension setting works great for me.
