TOP STAR Topstar Support SY Comfortable Home and Office Intervertebral Discs Swivel Chair : Reliable and Comfortable

So comfy, fairly easy to construct. Construction: the parts of the chair are all well protected in the box, so expect to spend 5 minutes unwrapping everything (the padding inside is recyclable, which is better than use of polystyrene, of course. The pictures are fairly straightforward, the arms are not obvious at first but with help from my son to steady the chair it was ok. The wheels took a bit of effort to get in (the instructions say a bit of lubricant could be used). The rest of the bits just clipped together quite easily (i didn’t hear a klik when the back went in but it doesn’t seem to have mattered). Time to build: 15 minutes including all the unwrapping. (note there are left and right stickers under the arms in german)in use: the chair can be adjusted in a number of ways. The seat can be raised quite high (very smooth gas action), i am just over 6 feet and my legs were dangling. You can also lean the back back, fixed or moving. The arms move up and down with some little twisty knobs on the outside of each one (nice action again).

When i opened this up and started to assemble the chair i was very impressed. Arm rests, heavy chromed affairs looking very solid and functional. However as i assembled the chair i came across a raft of issues:roller legs. The rollers are stiff and jammed up and don’t roll freely at all. The rollers don’t fit into the pedastil very wellthe instructions don’t reflect the assembly requiredthe bolt holes that are pre-screwed are not good quality which means the screw threads feel like they are crossed up when they are not. The back rest feels flimsy and un-yieldingthe seat is hard.

Having, in the past, bought cheap office chairs and always being disappointed by them, when this opportunity came up to try something more substantial, i leapt at the chance. So here is my review – the first thing you notice about it is the weight. Substantial comes to mind, well made with lots of solid metal, welded not screwed. Putting it together was a doddle until i had to fit the arms. Don’t get me wrong, the arms were not difficult in any way, but as the rest of the chair just ‘slotted’ together, the arms were more complicated to fit. They needed three screws each using the supplied allen keys. The chair itself is comfortable, but not too comfortable – meaning it is not soft on the bottom or back, but rather it aims to ‘fit’ the user. This makes it ideal for long sessions at the computer or whatever. Both arms are adjustable, meaning they go up and down. Here are the specifications for the TOP STAR Topstar Support SY Comfortable Home and Office Intervertebral Discs Swivel Chair:

  • Ergonomically body shaped backrest with built in moulding in the area of the lumbar vertebra
  • Intervertebral discs seat
  • Synchro-mechanism
  • Height adjustable “U2” armrests
  • Chromed steel base

The chair arrives in a massive box that even the courier, relieved to find me in, had trouble carrying and moving about. It’s a flat pack (even to the extent of inserting the casters) best unpacked from wherever the courier might helpfully place it. The components are well packed with expanded foam protecting key components and several bags of shredded cardboard padding; a checklist is provided so you can ensure everything is present before embarking on assembly. • overall finishthe first thing that struck me about the chair was that the component parts did not seem particularly well finished. The underside of the base (admittedly not on view) was particularly poor but the top area into which the gas mechanism is inserted is covered only by a moulded piece of chrome coloured plastic, which didn’t quite look right. The fabric chosen for the seat and back seems to be of a reasonable quality although the plastic components feel on the flimsy side, up to the job but not as good as i would expect for a chair with this rrp. • ease of assemblythe chair requires full self-assembly and in the box you should have the chrome base, a moulded plastic chrome shield, five casters, gas mechanism and cover, seat, back, two arm rests and a bag of screws, washers and spacers. I am not normally fazed by flat packs and can normally put them together with relative ease; in this case even inserting the casters took an enormous effort and around 30 minutes alone to complete after two of the five absolutely refused to fit even after lubrication. Note after assembly of the base, the instructions become slightly vague and minimal guidance is provided for attaching the arm rests.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Well made, comfortable in use, albeit a few ergonomic issues. The assembly instructions are woefully inadequate.
  • Reliable and Comfortable
  • Decent office chair

An expensive but comfortable office/typist chair. On opening the box the chair looked to be very well packed which is always a good start. I had to get my husband to “dictate” the review as he is the one who usually puts things together. He said the instructions were not the best he’d ever read but it gave at least some idea of where the bits were supposed to go. When building things like this i tend to open the packets and make sure all of the pieces described in the instructions are actually in the box. They were and of good quality too. Having done this before, the chair was fairly straightforward to assemble. If you’re new to these things then i would suggest you proceed carefully and take time to get all the bits in the right place. The two allen keys that were provided were also of reasonable quality. The chair has most of the usual adjustments for height, back rest height and the lock to stop the chair reclining is secure and easy to operate. The arms are well made and easily adjustable for height. All in all the chair is comfortable and a good office or typist chair, if a little too expensive (the reason for the four stars).

Well made, comfortable in use, albeit a few ergonomic issues. The assembly instructions are woefully inadequate. . Took me 25 minutes to assemble (it arrives well packaged but in bits). It comes with a couple of allen keys, which are all that is required. The assembly instructions are poor. My advice would be:1/ get everything out, unpacked and visible. Get another chair (a dinner chair without arms)2/ mount the the wheels into the 5 spokes. I used a bit of vaseline to help them go in – it took a bit of force. 3/ put the plastic ‘chrome’ cover over the center of the spokes. 4/ put the seat upside down on the chair you got earlier.

The chair arrived in a box so large the delivery man wondered if it contained a kitchen sink. There aren’t many parts to put together inside; the hardest part was inserting the castors into the 5 spur chrome steel base. There are three sheets of a4 with basic multilanguage installation instructions, with lots of diagrams and arrows. They were easy enough to follow and 15 minutes later it was assembled (though without arms, i prefer computer chairs without arms). All bolts & washers are included. Height adjustment is by lifting one of the two levers on the underside right of the seat. It actually goes higher than my current (cheaper swedish furniture store) chair, enough so my tall partner wasn’t slouching when trying it out. The other lever angles the back of the chair, though this isn’t independent of the seat so there is less adjustment available. Both the seat and back are cushioned; the back has lumber support, so you’re sat in it comfortably.

I am working at home much more these days and have nothing to sit on that compares to the comfort of an office desk chair, so was pleased to get the chance to review this one. Overall, it is certainly better than not having an office chair at all, but it is not of the quality of the mesh office chairs at work – but then they retail for about twice the price. Aesthetically it has a heavier look than i like and functionally the castors do not move as freely as they should and adjusting the chair takes a little time to get used to. As others have said, it is delivered is a large heavy box and the parts are well protected by the packing. Pros+ reasonably comfortable for desk work+ can set up the chair to suit your own height and tilting preferences+ assembly is straightforward enough although the instructions are poor and it took us nearly an hour. There is some good guidance in some of the other reviews here, which we found helpful. Two allen keys are provided as the only required tools. + chair arm height is adjustable also+ solid chromed wheel basecons- castors do not roll well and are not suitable for wooden floors without a mat – i see that optional castors are available for hard floors such as marble- poor assembly instructions.

Well-made and comfortable – a practical chair. This bavarian-made office chair is well-made and very comfortable. It comes ready for self-assembly, together with all the tools you need – a couple of hex keys. I was a bit worried about assembling the chair, but actually its quite straightforward: click the casters into the base, drop the gas spring into that, clip the back into the chair seat and drop that onto the base and you’re done. Except that you still need to fit the arms. This is slightly more complex, but its still not difficult. There’s a long bolt that needs to fit through a spacer and a washer. And two shorter screws for each arm. For some reason the long bolt takes a no. 5 hex key and the short ones take a no.

High quality german office chair. Got this to replace a cheap old office chair that had seen better days. This arrived in a huge heavy box (buyer beware) and took about 20 minutes to assemble – i am no technical whizz and i managed it fine. Basically you need to add the castors onto the base, add the seat post and then screw the arms into the seat before finally slotting in the backrest and putting the seat onto the base. Pretty simple (albeit a job that is easier with 2 people) and you can feel the quality and weight of the chair immediately. As for the seat itself, it is very comfortable – the height adjusts, the backrest adjusts upwards/downwards and in and out and the arms also adjust. It is a huge step up from the model it replaces at home and helps to prove that a) german stuff tends to be well made and b) you get what you pay for.
